CALLISTOY LIMITED T/A BOOKSTATION - SEPT 2025
What is a Gender Pay Gap?
- Organisations with over 150 employees are obliged to report on their Gender Pay Gap across a range of metrics. The main focus on the gender pay gap is to show the difference between the average hourly remuneration of men and women within an organisation.
- Gender Pay is not the same as Equal Pay. Gender Pay does not compare employees on the basis of their roles, job titles, length of service or experience. Instead, it looks at total remuneration and expresses any difference in remuneration between genders as a percentage.
Gender Pay Gap Information
- Callistoy has been in operation for over 40 years. We are a 100% Irish owned and operated retailer of books, cards and stationary as well as two food stores. Our success has only been possible thanks to the talented people who work for us.
- We are sharing our first Gender Pay Gap report in line with the Gender Pay Gap Information Act 2021. We have compared the remuneration of all working men and women, at all levels, full time and part time as of 15 June 2025*
(*Figures exclude shareholder-directors, whose remuneration is primarily related to company ownership rather than comparable salaried roles, to provide a more representative view of employee pay).

- At Callistoy, we employ 194 people. The majority of our colleagues, 167 (86%) are female with active participation in all areas and levels of the business, including the warehouse, retail stores, support office and E-Commerce.
- Males account for 27 employees (14%)

- Callistoy typically only employs temporary staff for short periods at Christmas and during the August back to school period. There were no temporary employees on the snapshot date for this report. Therefore, the mean and median pay gap in hourly pay between temporary male and female employees are not reported.
- Men received 2% higher average bonuses.
- Median bonuses equal for both genders
Conclusion
- Callistoy is close to full pay parity when comparing similar roles indicating our pay structure is fair and competitive.
- Callistoy will continue to monitor its recruitment and promotion policies to ensure that there is no bias towards either gender as well as continued proactive equity initiatives to help close the remaining small gap and reinforce our commitment to equality.
- Callistoy is an equal opportunities employer.
- We are committed to evaluating, understanding and improving the Gender Pay Gap within the organization as we continue to build a diverse, inclusive and equal company.
